Kiandra "KiKi"Layne (born December 10, 1991)[1] is an American actress.[2] She is known for her film roles in the romantic dramaIf Beale Street Could Talk (2018), the dramaNative Son (2019),[3] the action superhero filmThe Old Guard (2020),[4] the romantic comedyComing 2 America (2021),[5] and the psychological thrillerDon't Worry Darling (2022).

Early life

Layne is fromCincinnati, Ohio.[6] She earned aBFA in acting fromThe Theatre School at DePaul University in 2014.

In a 2018 interview withVanity Fair, Layne said that she was always acting growing up and that her favorite movie as a child wasThe Lion King. She said, "I used to watch it every day and create these extravagant stories with myBarbies and stuffed animals."[7]

Career

Layne's first acting role was withLena Waithe in the pilot for the drama seriesThe Chi, filmed in 2015.[7]

She has modeled for the fashion brandKate Spade New York.[8]

Layne's breakout role was inBarry Jenkins' 2018 dramaIf Beale Street Could Talk.[9] She starred in the 2019 screenadaptation ofRichard Wright’s 1940 novelNative Son,[10] then alongsideCharlize Theron in 2020'sThe Old Guard,[11] directed byGina Prince-Bythewood.[12]

Layne was featured in composerMax Richter'sVoices, which was inspired by theUniversal Declaration of Human Rights. The album contains readings of the Declaration byEleanor Roosevelt and Layne, with a further 70 readings by people around the world.

In 2021, Layne joined the cast alongsideEddie Murphy in theAmazon Prime sequelComing 2 America.[13]

Layne stars as Detective Ellie Steckler inChip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

She reprised herThe Old Guard role in 2025'sThe Old Guard 2.

Personal life

Layne is currently in a relationship withAri'el Stachel, whom she met on the set ofDon't Worry Darling in the fall of 2020.[14]
