InEgyptian mythology,Khenti-kheti (also speltChenti-cheti), was acrocodile-god, though he was later represented as afalcon-god. His name means "foremost retreater".[2]
At earlier times, he was thecrocodile god of the region calledAthribis inLower Egypt. This is why, inEgyptian history, he has often been associated withSebek and is said to beTheOwner of Athribis. However, during theNew Kingdom, he was shown to be related toHorus and was shaped like a hawk. At that time his name wasHoras Khenti-Kheti.[3]
He could take the form of a giant black bull, namedKemwer.[4] He was later replaced byOsiris, also known as "Osiris, who lived in Athribis".[3]
