In thisOttoman Turkish style name, thegiven name is Hayır, thetitle isBey, and there is no family name.

Hayır Bey (sometimes spelledKha'ir Bey orKha'ir Beg) orKhayrbak (1464 – 1522)ruledEgypt in the name of theOttoman Empire from 1517 until his death in 1522.[1][2][3] He was granted the position of governor by sultanSelim I of theOttoman Empire for his help in the conquest of Egypt.

Being ofAbkhazian origin,[4] he was the formerMamluk governor ofAleppo who contributed to the Ottoman victory at theBattle of Marj Dabiq. After theOttoman conquest of the Mamluks and the end of theMamluk Sultanate, the grand vizierYunus Pasha was made the governor of Egypt. However, after Ottoman sultanSelim I found out about Yunus Pasha's corruption in governing, consisting of bribery and extortion, Hayır Bey was entrusted with thegovernorship of Egypt.[5]

His residence was theAmir Alin Aq Palace and he built theAmir Khayrbak Funerary Complex.

He married Miṣirbāy (d. 1522), widow of sultanAn-Nasir Muhammad ibn Qaitbay (r. 1496-1498) and sultanAbu Sa'id Qansuh (r. 1498-1500); according to contemporary sources, he abused her so severely that she almost died, and the couple separated.[6]
