Khao kha mu (Thai:ข้าวขาหมู,pronounced[kʰâːwkʰǎːmǔː],lit. 'pork-leg rice';Chinese:猪脚饭,pinyin:zhū jiǎo fàn), or sometimes simply calledkha mu (ขาหมู), is a popularThai food. It is influenced byChinese cuisine, specificallyTeochew cuisine.[1]
Khao kha mu is an individual dish consisting ofstewedpig's trotter in condensed hot pottage (some recipes are mixed withcocoa powder or boiledpeanuts[2][3]), then it will be cut into thin slices and topped on steamed rice. The dish is served with half-spiced corned eggs, small pieces ofpickled mustard greens, and occasionally blanchedChinese broccoli with fresh bird's-eye chili peppers and cloves of garlic on the side. Sometimes it is eaten with clear broth soup. The accompanying dipping sauce is most often made ofyellow chili peppers, garlic, granulated salt, limeade, and vinegar.
Khao kha mu is a food that can be found online fromstreet stalls,food courts in department stores to the luxury restaurants.
For Bangkok, there are many famouskhao kha mu restaurants in various neighbourhoods such asBang Wa,Phlapphla Chai,Mo Mi,Sam Yan, etc.[4][2] A restaurant inBang Rak receivedBib Gourmand awards twice in both 2018 and 2019 Michelin Guide.[1][5]
