Kevin Thomas Shinick (/ˈʃɪnɪk/SHIN-ik;[1] born March 19, 1969)[2] is an Americanwriter,producer,director andactor, as well as acomic book creator.[3] Shinick received an Emmy award for his work on the stop-motion animated seriesRobot Chicken,[4] and an Emmy nomination for his work onMad,[5] the animated series based on the iconic humor magazine, before serving as showrunner and supervising producer for theDisney XD seriesSpider-Man. He also portrayed the ACME Time Net Squadron Leader in the PBS seriesWhere in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?.
Shinick was born in theLong Island suburb ofMerrick,New York. He attendedSanford H. Calhoun High School, and continued onto nearbyHofstra University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in both theatre and communication.[6] During this time, he appeared as a contestant on the game showJackpot during its first week in September 1989.
A year after graduating college, Shinick was cast inTony Randall's Broadway production ofThe Seagull oppositeEthan Hawke,Laura Linney,Tyne Daly,Jon Voight, andTony Roberts. Subsequent Broadway plays followed, includingNight Must Fall withMatthew Broderick,The School For Scandal with Randall,The Government Inspector withLainie Kazan, and the Tony-nominated productions ofTimon of Athens andSaint Joan.[7]
In 2002, Shinick served as writer and director forSpider-Man Live!, a Broadway-style adaptation ofSpider-Man that played to large venues such asRadio City Music Hall.[8][9] The show embarked on a 40-city U.S. tour and has the distinction of being the first full-length live-action stage show based on the character.
In 1996, Shinick was a host and squadron leader in the PBS television seriesWhere in Time Is Carmen Sandiego?, which led him to appear in merchandise such as trading cards and action figures.
In 2004, Shinick wrote, directed, and starred in the romantic comedy filmIt's About Time.
Beginning in 2007, Shinick began working as a writer for theAdult Swim stop-motion seriesRobot Chicken. Over time, he became a director and producer as well.
In 2010, Shinick created the animated sketch seriesMad with Mark Marek, additionally serving as a producer and writer.Mad ran for four seasons and ended in December 2013.
From 2017 to 2018, Shinick was a producer and writer for theDisney XD seriesSpider-Man.[10] Also in 2017, Shinick joined the writing staff of the Netflix comedy seriesDisjointed, created byChuck Lorre andDavid Javerbaum and starringKathy Bates as the owner of a pot dispensary.
As an actor, Shinick has guest starred on various television shows, includingGrimm,Masters of Sex,Major Crimes,Trust Me,Rizzoli & Isles,Without a Trace, andMonday Mornings. Additionally, he voicedBruce Banner inAvengers Assemble,Guardians of the Galaxy, andSpider-Man.
Shinick appeared as a guest onThe George Lucas Talk Show during theirMay the AR Be LI$$ YouArli$$ marathon fundraiser.
In March 2024, Shinick was announced to portrayDick Clark in the biographical musical dramaMichael.[11]
Since 2009, Shinick has written comics for bothMarvel Comics andDC Comics. For DC, he wrote the annual "Batman 80-Page Giant" and "Joker's Asylum II: Clayface". For Marvel, he wroteAvenging Spider-Man,[12]Superior Carnage,[13]Superior Spider-Man Team-Up,[14] andAXIS: Hobgoblin.
In 2019, Shinick wrote the young-adult novelForce Collector as part of theJourney to Star Wars series.[15]
