Kevin Feige (/ˈfɡi/FY-ghee; born June 2, 1973[1]) is an American film and television producer. He has been the president ofMarvel Studios and the primary producer of theMarvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise since 2007.[2][3] The films he has produced have a combined worldwide box office gross of over$31 billion,[4] making him thehighest grossing producer of all time, withAvengers: Endgame (2019) becoming thehighest-grossing film at the time of its release.

Feige is a member of theProducers Guild of America. In 2018, he was nominated for theAcademy Award for Best Picture for producingBlack Panther, the first superhero film to receive that honor and the first film in the MCU to win an Academy Award. In October 2019, he became thechief creative officer ofMarvel Entertainment.

Early life

[edit]

Feige was born inBoston, Massachusetts, and raised inWestfield, New Jersey, the son of Maralyn and Tim Feige.[1][5][6] He moved to New Jersey at the age of three and lived there until the age of eighteen,[7] when he graduated fromWestfield High School.[8] His maternal grandfather, Robert E. Short, was a television producer in the 1950s, working onsoap operas includingThe Guiding Light andAs the World Turns.[9][10][11]

After high school, Feige attended theUniversity of Southern California, thealma mater of his favorite directors:George Lucas,Ron Howard andRobert Zemeckis. His first five applications to theUSC School of Cinematic Arts were rejected, but he was accepted on the sixth,[10] studying in their Division of Film & Television Production.[12] He graduated in 1995 with a degree in film,[13] receiving an honorary doctorate in 2023.[14]

Career

[edit]

His early work includes being assistant to executive producerLauren Shuler Donner on the filmsVolcano (1997) andYou've Got Mail (1998).[10] On the firstX-Men film, released in 2000, Donner made Feige an associate producer due to his knowledge of theMarvel Universe.[5] ImpressingAvi Arad, Feige was hired to work as a producer atMarvel Studios and as Arad's second-in-command that same year.[15][10] In the mid-2000s, Feige realized that although the charactersSpider-Man,Blade, and theX-Men had been respectively licensed to the film companiesSony Pictures,New Line Cinema, and20th Century Fox, Marvel still owned thefilm rights to the core members of theAvengers. He envisioned creating ashared universe just as creatorsStan Lee andJack Kirby had done with their comic books in the early 1960s.[16] Feige was named the president of production at Marvel Studios in March 2007, replacing the studio's presidentMichael Helfant.[2] Following the successful opening weekend of Marvel's filmIron Man in May 2008, Feige was promoted to president of Marvel Studios.[3]

Selznick Achievement Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures by the Producers Guild of America in 2019.[19] In September 2019, it was reported that Feige was developing aStar Wars film forLucasfilm,[20] which was no longer in development by March 2023.[21] In October 2019, Feige, in addition to being president of Marvel Studios, was namedchief creative officer forMarvel Entertainment,Marvel Comics,Marvel Television, andMarvel Animation.[22]

In November 2025, Feige gave anendowment to his alma mater to establish the Kevin Feige Division of Film & Television Production at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. USC called the endowment "transformational" and said it would "provide a lasting source of funding for faculty, students and programmatic support" of the Feige Division.[12]

Personal life

[edit]

Feige married Caitlin, acardiothoracic nurse,[23] around 2007.[7] They have two children: a daughter Ella born in 2009, and a son Erik born in 2012.[24][7][25]
