Kenichi Sako (佐古 賢一, born 17 July 1970) is a Japanese formerbasketball player and current coach.[1] Nicknamed"Mr. Basketball", Sako played aspoint guard and is widely regarded as one of the best Japanese players in history,[2] having won twelveEmperor's Cup titles and nineJBL championships. Representing theJapan national team, Sako played at oneFIBA World Cup in 1998, and won one silver and one bronze medal at theFIBA Asia Cup. He was enshrined into theFIBA Hall of Fame in 2020, becoming the first Japanese player to be inducted.[3]

Playing career

After leading his high school team to the national championship in 1998, Sako began his career with theIsuzu Motors Giga Cats, where he played for nine seasons. His second team were theSeaHorses Mikawa.[4]
