Kelvin Mitchell Korver (born February 21, 1949) is an American former professionalfootballdefensive tackle who played three seasons with theOakland Raiders of theNational Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Raiders in the second round of the1972 NFL draft. He playedcollege football atTexas A&M University andNorthwestern College.
Kelvin Mitchell Korver was born on February 21, 1949, inDallas, Texas.[1] He attendedIrving High School inIrving, Texas.[1]
Korver was on the freshman football team atTexas A&M University in 1967.[1] He was later a member of theNorthwestern Red Raiders ofNorthwestern College from 1969 to 1971.[1] He receivedAssociated Press (AP) third-teamLittle All-America honors in 1970 and AP first-team Little All-America recognition in 1971.[2][3]
Korver was selected by theOakland Raiders in the second round, with the 33rd overall pick, of the1972 NFL draft.[4] He spent the 1972 season on thetaxi squad.[5] He played in all 14 games for the Raiders in 1973, recording one sack, one interception, and one fumble recovery.[4] He also appeared in two playoff games that season.[4] Korver played in nine games in 1974 and made one sack.[4] He appeared in one game, a start, for the Raiders during the 1975 season.[4] He was placed on injured reserve on September 8, 1976, and spent the entire season there.[5] On January 9, 1977, the Raiders wonSuper Bowl XI against theMinnesota Vikings. Korver was released in 1977.[5]
Korver's brother Clayton Korver played college football atSouthern Methodist University and Northwestern College, spent the 1975 offseason with thePhiladelphia Eagles, and played forThe Hawaiians of theWorld Football League in 1975.[6][7]
