Kayanna is a village inKozhikode district in the state ofKerala,India.[1]

Demographics

As of 2001[update] Indiacensus, Kayanna had a population of 16,028 with 7,964 males and 8,064 females.[1]Kayanna is also known as Kayanna Bazar which was derived from Kasyapa Mannu. The old Kasyapa Munin was made thapas in here.Kayanna grama panchayath is the panchayath having the youngest panchayath president in 2005 around the state Sheeba.

Kayannavillage connects to other parts of India throughVatakara town on the west andKuttiady town on the east. National Highway No. 66 passes throughVatakara and the northern stretch connects toMangalore,Goa andMumbai. The southern stretch connects toCochin andTrivandrum. The eastern National Highway No.54 going throughKuttiady connects toMananthavady,Mysore andBangalore. The nearest airports are atKannur andKozhikode. The nearest railway station is atVatakara.

Kayanna police station became notorious for torturing communists likeRajan during theIndian emergency of the 1970s.
