Kawika Uilani Mitchell (born October 10, 1979) is an American former professionalfootball player who was alinebacker in theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theSouth Florida Bulls. Mitchell was selected by theKansas City Chiefs in the second round in 2003.[1] Mitchell also played for theNew York Giants,Buffalo Bills andNew Orleans Saints.
Kawika Mitchell started hiscollege football career with theUniversity of Georgia, but transferred to theSouth Florida Bulls after his freshman year. During his career he made 367 tackles, aschool record, and he was nominated for theButkus Award as a junior and senior.[2]

While playing with the Giants, Mitchell was a resident ofHoboken, New Jersey.[4] Mitchell appeared inSuper Bowl XLII, and recorded 8 tackles and a sack.[5]
On February 29, 2008, theBuffalo Bills signed Mitchell to a five-year contract forUS$17.5 million (equivalent to about $25.6M in 2024). Mitchell was expected to take over the starting weakside linebacker position that was shared byCoy Wire andKeith Ellison in 2007.[6][7] On September 10, 2010, two days before their season started, the Bills put Mitchell on the IR, ending his season.[8]

Mitchell and his wife Billie have a son, Lewai (pronounced Levi) who followed in his footsteps at playing football for the University of South Florida.[9] He also has a daughter, Eliza.[10] In 2007, Mitchell donated his game check from week 15 to Gridiron Greats which helps retired football players in dire need.[11]
