Description

Kate's Ice Cream uses organiccoconut milk andcashew milk.[2]Gluten-free andvegan ice cream varieties includecookies and cream,marionberry cobbler, rosewater cardamom almond, salted peanut butter brittle,[3] triple chocolate brownie,[4] vanilla, and lemon blueberry cheesecake, which has blueberry jam andgraham cracker crust. Kate's also serves brownie sundaes,choco tacos,[5]ice cream cake, andice cream sandwiches.[6]

Kate's has also served seasonal ice cream varieties such as chocolate peppermint.[7]

History

Owner Katelyn Williams launched Kate's Ice Cream in 2019,[1] initially selling at thefarmers' market on thePortland State University campus indowntown Portland.[8] The business later operated as apop-up on Northeast Sandy Boulevard, before the firstbrick and mortar location on Mississippi Avenue,[9][10] in thenorth Portland part of theBoise neighborhood.[11]

A second shop opened on 23rd Avenue innorthwest Portland'sNorthwest District in 2024,[12][13][14] in the space previously occupied by Westward Whiskey.[15]

Reception

Writers forAxios Portland included Kate's in a 2023 overview of the city's best vegan ice cream.[16]Portland Monthly included the business in a 2024 overview of the city's best ice cream.[11] Waz Wu and Rebecca Roland included Kate's inEater Portland's 2024 list of the city's sixteen "essential" vegan and vegetarian restaurants.[4] In 2025, writers included the business in the website's overviews of the city's eighteen best vegan and vegetarian restaurants[17] and best dairy-free frozen desserts.[18]
