Kastelbell-Tschars (German:[ˌkastl̩ˈbɛlˈtʃaːɐ̯s];Italian:Castelbello-Ciardes[kaˌstɛlˈbɛlloˈtʃardes]) is acomune (municipality) inSouth Tyrol in northernItaly, located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest ofBolzano.

Geography

As of 30 November 2010, it had a population of 2,387 and an area of 53.9 square kilometres (20.8 sq mi).[3]

Kastelbell-Tschars borders the following municipalities:Latsch,Naturns,Schnals andUlten.

Coat-of-arms

The emblem is agules mill wheel, with eight paddles, onargent background. It retakes the insignia of Counts Hendl owners of the castle from 1531 to 1949.[4]

According to the 2024 census, 98.18% of the population speak German, 1.77% Italian and 0.05% Ladin as first language.[5]
