Kastelbell-Tschars (German: [ˌkastl̩ˈbɛl ˈtʃaːɐ̯s] ;Italian :Castelbello-Ciardes [kaˌstɛlˈbɛllo ˈtʃardes] ) is acomune (municipality) inSouth Tyrol in northernItaly , located about 40 kilometres (25 mi) northwest ofBolzano .
As of 30 November 2010, it had a population of 2,387 and an area of 53.9 square kilometres (20.8 sq mi).[ 3]
Kastelbell-Tschars borders the following municipalities:Latsch ,Naturns ,Schnals andUlten .
The emblem is agules mill wheel, with eight paddles, onargent background. It retakes the insignia of Counts Hendl owners of the castle from 1531 to 1949.[ 4]
Linguistic distribution [ edit ] According to the 2024 census, 98.18% of the population speak German, 1.77% Italian and 0.05% Ladin as first language.[ 5]
