Karukh District (Dari:ولسوالی کرخ;Pashto:د کرخ ولسوالی) is one of thedistricts ofHerat Province in northwesternAfghanistan, which has an estimated population of 79,333 people.[1]Karukh serves as theadministrative center of the district. TheAfghanistan Ring Road passes in the district. There are also a number of smaller roads connecting different towns and villages.[2]
One of the main attractions in the district of Karukh is thePashdan Dam, which providesirrigation water to many farmlands in the area. A number of people visit itsreservoir for leisure and pleasure purposes. The reservoir is located about 15 km (9.3 mi) from the city ofHerat. A newpower substation is also being built in the district.[3][4]
Karukh District bordersKushk District to the northwest,Kushki Kuhna District to the north andBadghis Province to the northeast. To the east isObe District. To the south isPashtun Zarghun District andInjil District is situated to the west.
