Danish astronomer (1945–2025)

Karl A. Augustesen (19 May 1945 – 29 September 2025) was a Danishastronomer and co-discoverer of minor planets.[1]

Working atBrorfelde Observatory, he is credited by theMinor Planet Center with the discovery of six numberedasteroids during 1984–1987.[2]

The Vestian main-belt asteroid5171 Augustesen, discovered by astronomer and colleaguePoul Jensen at Brorfelde Observatory in 1988, was named in his honor.[1]

Augustesen died on 29 September 2025, at the age of 80.[3]
