TheKarategin Uzbeks (formerly known asDormon Uzbeks) are aKarluk-Turkic ethnic group, indigenous toKarategin,Tajikistan, but now living in the regions betweenBalkh andKabul, in NorthAfghanistan. In the 16th century they were expelled by theKyrgyz to their present homeland.[citation needed]
The name Karategin derives from the historical region ofKarategin, inTajikistan. Before the Kyrgyz had expanded to the southern regions ofFergana,Kulob andBalkh, the Karategin Uzbeks (formerly known as Dormon Uzbeks) used to live there.[citation needed]
