Karan Khatri Chhetri (Nepali:करण खत्री क्षेत्री, born 10 October 1991), known asKaran KC, (Valentine boy) is aNepalese professional cricketer. He played inNepal's first everOne Day International (ODI) match, against theNetherlands in August 2018. Karan is a right-handedbatsman and a right-armfast-mediumbowler.[1] He made his debut againstUganda in January 2015.[2][3] KC became the second cricketer of Nepal to take his 100th wicket in T20Is.[4][5] He was the Nepali first player to claim five wickets in a T20I for Nepal against PNG.[6]

He guidedNepal to a one-wicket victory againstCanada in the final match of the2018 ICC World Cricket League Division Two inWindhoek, Namibia, on 14 February 2018.[7] The victory ensuredNepal a berth for the2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier to be held in March in Zimbabwe.

Karan represents Region No. 8 Pokhara in theNational League,Panchakanya Tej of theEverest Premier League, and Pentagon International College in the SPA Cup. He representedPanchakanya Tej in theEverest Premier League, 2016.

Playing career

Karan was born inBaglung,Nepal and brought up inChandigarh,India. He representedPanchakanya Tej in the2014 Nepal Premier League, where he picked up 10 wickets in 7 matches, at an average of 13.40.[8]

He was selected in the 18-man preliminary squad for the2014 ICC World Cricket League Division Three[9] but did not make it to the playing eleven.[10] Subsequently, he and his teammateAarif Sheikh were sent toIndia in September 2014 for a 10-day training camp at Just Cricket Academy inBangalore.[3]

He was part of the team that touredSri Lanka in November 2014 where he played two, three-day matches againstSri Lanka Cricket Combined XI.[11][12]

He made hisList A debut in the2015 ICC World Cricket League Division Two inNamibia in January 2015.[2] Playing his first tournament for Nepal, he picked up 9 wickets in 6 matches at an average of 15.88 and an economy rate of 3.31,[13] including afive-wicket haul againstCanada,[14] which are the best bowling figures by a Nepalese bowler in theList A format.[15]

International career

He made hisTwenty20 International debutagainst the Netherlands on 30 June 2015.[16]

Karan scored 42 runs not out in the must-win match againstCanada, helping Nepal win the match off the last ball and qualify for the2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.[17]

In July 2018, Karan was named in Nepal's squad for theirOne Day International (ODI) seriesagainst the Netherlands.[18] These were Nepal's firstODI matches since gaining ODI status during the2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.[19] He made his ODI debut for Nepal against theNetherlands on 1 August 2018.[20]

In August 2018, he was named in Nepal's squad for the2018 Asia Cup Qualifier tournament.[21] In October of the same year, he was named in Nepal's squad for the Eastern sub-regional group in the 2018–19ICC World Twenty20 Asia Qualifier tournament.[22] In June 2019, he was named in Nepal's squad for theRegional Finals of the2018–19 ICC T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier tournament.[23][24] In September 2019, he was named in both Nepal's squad for the2019–20 Singapore Tri-Nation Series and2019–20 Oman Pentangular Series.[25] In the match against Netherlands in the Pentangular Series, he took 4 wickets for 17 runs, and played a match-winning knock of 31 not out.[26]

He made hisfirst-class debut on 6 November 2019, forNepal against theMarylebone Cricket Club (MCC), during the MCC's tour of Nepal.[27][28] Later the same month, he was named in Nepal's squads for the2019 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Bangladesh,[29] and for thecricket tournament at the2019 South Asian Games.[30] The Nepal team won the bronze medal, after they beat the Maldives by five wickets in the third-place playoff match.[31] In September 2020, he was one of eighteen cricketers awarded a central contract by theCricket Association of Nepal.

In May 2024, he was named in Nepal's squad for the2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament.[32]

In January 2026, Karan was named in Nepal's squad for2026 T20I World Cup.[33]
