TheKaraj (Persian: رودخانه کرج) is a river on the central plateau ofIran.[1] It is the second largest river afterZayandarud in the central plateau region.[1]
The Karaj runs roughly 152 miles (245 km) in length.[1] Itsheadwaters are in the CentralAlborz mountain range, north ofTehran inAlborz Province. It flowssouth past the city ofKaraj, and then flows eastward with its tributaryJajrood River joining inTehran Province, to flow into theendorheicNamak Lake basin in theQom Province.
TheAmir Kabir Dam is constructed across the river in the foothills of theAlborz mountain range.
