Kaprije is anisland in theCroatian part of theAdriatic Sea, situated in theŠibenik archipelago. The island has area of 7.11 km2 (2.75 sq mi) and is composed of hills divided by transverse and longitudinalvalleys wheregrass and sparsepineforests grow.[1][2]Grapes andolives are cultivated there.[3] The main industries areagriculture,fishing andtourism.[3]Automobiles are not allowed on the island.
In 14th and 15th century the island belonged to noble families from Šibenik.[2] DuringOttoman conquests in 16th and 17th century, the island was inhabited by refugees from mainland.[2] Around that time, aSaint Peter'schurch was built on the island.[2]
Its population of 189 lives in the eponymous single settlement of Kaprije, which is part of theCity ofŠibenik.[4][5]
