TheKaniv Reservoir (Ukrainian:Канівське водосховище,romanized: Kanivs'ke vodoskhovyshche) is areservoir located on theDnieper river in theUkrainian oblasts ofCherkasy andKyiv.[1] Named after the city ofKaniv, the reservoir has a length of 162 km, a maximum width of 5 km, an area of 675 km2, an average depth of 5.5 meters, and a volume of 2.6 km3.[1] Its water level is maintained by a dam of theKaniv Hydroelectric Power Plant, built in 1972.
The Kaniv,Kakhovka,Dnieper,Kamianske,Kremenchuk, andKyiv reservoirs form theDnieper reservoir cascade, a deep-water route on the Dnieper that allows ships to sail upstream as far as thePrypiat river.[1]
