Kanarraville (/kəˈnærəvɪl/kə-NARR-ə-vil) is a town inIron County,Utah, United States. The population was 442 at the2020 census.[4]

As of thecensus[3] of 2000, there were 311 people, 125 households, and 96 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 692.0 people per square mile (266.8/km2). There were 155 housing units at an average density of 344.9 per square mile (133.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 95.50%White, 1.61%Native American, 0.96% fromother races, and 1.93% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 4.50% of the population.
There were 125 households, out of which 24.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.0% weremarried couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.4% were non-families. 21.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.86.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 22.2% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 19.3% from 25 to 44, 28.3% from 45 to 64, and 21.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females, there were 80.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 82.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $34,375, and the median income for a family was $38,906. Males had a median income of $25,938 versus $13,750 for females. Theper capita income for the town was $14,773. About 10.0% of families and 40% of the population were below thepoverty line, including 20% under age 18 and 38% of those age 65 or over.
According to theUnited States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.46 square miles (1.2 km2), all land.[6]
Kanarraville is located adjacent to the southwest end ofCedar Valley; it is also at the base of theHurricane Cliffs, on the town's east border.
This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to theKöppen Climate Classification system, Kanarraville has awarm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps.[7]
Kanarra, later renamed Kanarraville, onKanarra Creek, was first settled in 1861 and 1862. It was named for Piute Chief Canarrah or Quanarrah, but settlers spelled it Kanarrah or Kanarra.[8] Its settlers were families driven fromFort Harmony when the fort had to be abandoned after most of its adobe walls were washed away during a month of heavy rains in January and February, during theGreat Flood of 1862.New Harmony inWashington County was the other settlement created by refugees from this disaster.[9]: 174
