Kamran Rasool (born 9 April 1948) is aretiredPakistanicivil servant belonging to thePakistan Administrative Service who served inBPS-22 grade as theCabinet Secretary of Pakistan,Chief Secretary Punjab and later on as theDefence Secretary of Pakistan.[1] Rasool was considered to be one of the most influential civil servants during the era of GeneralPervez Musharraf. Rasool was promoted to the highest civil rank ofFederal Secretary in May 2003.[2]
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Development Administration fromManchester University and M.A in English fromPunjab University.[3]
Rasool joined theCivil Services of Pakistan in 1972. He has served as deputy commissioner ofKasur,Muzaffargarh andJhelum, and commissionerGujranwala. He has also served as provincial secretary for food, industries and education secretary in theGovernment of Punjab.[1][4]
Rasool served as an additional secretary in the Interior Ministry before being appointed as chairman of theBank of Punjab. It was during his tenure as Chairman BoP that he was promoted to the highest grade ofBPS-22 grade.[5] He was thereafter posted as theChief Secretary of Punjab in December, the administrative boss of Pakistan's largest province. Later on, he was appointed to the coveted slot ofCabinet Secretary under Prime MinisterShaukat Aziz and then as theDefence Secretary of Pakistan.[1] As Secretary Defence, Rasool headed the Pakistani side in the Pak-India Siachen talks in 2007.[6]
After retirement, Rasool joined MCB Bank Limited's top brass.[3]
