It was founded in 1680[citation needed] as the village ofBalanda (Бала́нда), named so after theBalanda River, whose name in turn is possibly derived from a dialectal word indicating the river'swindiness.[2] In 1962, Balanda was granted town status and renamed Kalininsk afterMikhail Kalinin, a Bolshevik revolutionary and Soviet politician.[2]
^abcdLaw #78-ZSO stipulates that the borders of the administrative districts are identical to the borders of the municipal districts. The Law #94-ZSO, which describes the borders and the composition of Kalininsky Municipal District, lists the town of Kalininsk as a part of that municipal district. The Law #21-ZSO does not enumerate any administrative division types below the district level.
