Kafr Naya (Arabic:كفر نايا,romanized: Kafar Naya) is a town in northernAleppo Governorate, northwesternSyria. Located north ofAleppo, the town is administratively part ofNahiya Tell Rifaat inA'zaz District. Nearby localities includeMayer to the southwest. In the 2004 census, Kafr Naya had a population of 5,647.[2] The village is inhabited byTurkmen.[3]
During theSyrian War, Kafr Naya was captured by theFree Syrian Army in 2012 but later conquered by theIslamic State (IS) in early 2014.[4] It was eventually captured by theKurdish-ledSyrian Democratic Forces (SDF) during theFebruary offensive in 2016,[5] bringing it into theAutonomous Administration of North and East Syria. The capture of the town by theYPG halted the northwards advance by theSyrian Army during the offensive. The area was then captured by militants backed byTurkey in 2024.[6][7][8]
