KOPB-FM (91.5 FM) is anon-commercial, listener-supportedradio station licensed toPortland, Oregon. It is owned byOregon Public Broadcasting and airs apublic radionews and talkformat. It is amember station ofNational Public Radio (NPR),American Public Media, thePublic Radio Exchange (PRX), and airs theBBC World Service overnight. KOPB-FM serves as theflagship station for OPB,simulcast on multiple stations andFM translators in Oregon. It is a primary entry point station for theEmergency Alert System.
KOPB-FM is aClass C0 station with aneffective radiated power (ERP) of 73,000watts.[2] Thetransmitter is off NW Skyline Boulevard, insideForest Park in Portland.
The stationsigned on the air in 1962; 63 years ago (1962).[3] Its originalcall sign was KOAP-FM and it broadcast at 92.3 on the FM dial. The following year, it moved to 91.5 MHz, in the section of the FM band set aside for non-commercial stations. In 1967, the commercial station that today isKGON began broadcasting at 92.3 MHz.
KOAP-FM changed its call letters to KOPB-FM in 1989 to identify with Oregon Public Broadcasting, its parent company.
