KFIA (710kHz) is acommercialAMradio station broadcasting aChristian talk and teachingformat.Licensed toCarmichael, California, the station serves theSacramento metropolitan area. The station is currently owned by New Inspiration Broadcasting Company, Inc. which is a part ofSalem Media Group.[2]

KFIA is powered at 25,000watts by day. But because710 AM is aclear channel frequency reserved forClass A stationsKIROSeattle andWORNew York City, KFIA must greatly reduce power at night to 1,000 watts. It uses adirectional antenna at all times. Thetransmitter is off North Foothills Boulevard at Athens Avenue inRocklin.[3] KFIA programming is also heard on 250 wattFM translatorK289CT 105.7MHz inSacramento.[4]

Programming

Most of KFIA's schedule isbrokered programming where religious leaders pay for time on the station and may seek donations to their ministries during their shows. Some national Christian shows heard on KFIA includeThrough the Bible withJ. Vernon McGee,Grace to You withJohn MacArthur,Truth for Life withAlistair Begg,Insight for Living withChuck Swindoll andFocus on The Family withJim Daly. Until August 2009, it airedBible Answer Man withHank Hanegraff. News updates are supplied bySRN News.

History

On January 11, 1979, the stationsigned on the air.[5] It was owned by Olympic Broadcasters and was powered at only 250 watts. KFIA has maintained the samecall sign and religious format for its entire time on the air.

New Inspiration Broadcasting, asubsidiary of theSalem Media Group, acquired the station in 1995.[6]
