KQNA (1130kHz) is acommercialAMradio stationlicensed toPrescott Valley, Arizona. It has atalk radioformat and is owned by the Prescott Valley Broadcasting Co. (d/b/a Arizona's Hometown Radio Group).[3][4][5] Thestudios and offices are on Karicio Lane inPrescott.

By day, KQNA is powered at 1,000wattsnon-directional.[6] But1130 AM is aclear channel frequency. So to avoid interference to other stations, KQNA greatly reduces power at night to only four watts. Programming is also heard on twoFM translators: 10-wattK260BL on 99.9 MHz came into service in 2009; it is aimed at downtown Prescott and broadcasts from southwest of the city. 250-wattK238CB on 95.5 broadcasts from Mingus Mountain toward Prescott Valley andCottonwood and was acquired from Advance Ministries in 2016.

Programming

Most of KQNA's programs arenationally syndicatedconservative talk shows hosted byBrian Kilmeade,Dennis Prager,Sebastian Gorka,Ben Shapiro,Greg Kelly,Hugh Hewitt andLarry Elder. On weekdays, a local hour known asTalk of the Town is heard at 4 p.m. It features hosts from Chino Valley on Mondays, Prescott Valley on Tuesdays, Prescott on Wednesdays and Cottonwood/The Roundtable on Thursdays.

Weekends feature shows on money, health, gardening and home repair, as well as repeats of weekday shows. On Saturdays,Hammer Time, is hosted by Sandy Griffis for the Yavapai County Contractors Association. AndThe Mountain Gardener is produced by Ken Lain at Watters Garden Center.[citation needed] Weekend hosts includeMike Gallagher,Ben Shapiro andRed Eye Radio. Most hours begin with an update fromFox News Radio.

KQNA carries live sports includingArizona Cardinalsfootball, andArizona Diamondbacksbaseball.

History

The stationsigned on the air on September 11, 1986; 39 years ago (September 11, 1986).[7] While it was still aconstruction permit, before it was built, it got thecall sign KLKY, which stood for the word "Lucky." It was owned by Lucky Communications, with R. David Carson as the president. The station was adaytimer, required to go off the air at night. It was anaffiliate of theSatellite Music Network (SMN), carrying anadult standards andmiddle of the road (MOR) format known as "Stardust."

In 1991, it changed its call letters to KWDS. The station was assigned the KQNA call sign by theFederal Communications Commission (FCC) on January 12,1994.[1] It also was given permission by the FCC to broadcast around the clock but at a much lower power after sunset.

KQNA is a member of the Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, Cottonwood-Verde Valley and Flagstaff Chambers of Commerce as well as a member of the Prescott Downtown Partnership.[citation needed]
