By day, KSPD is powered at 1,000watts, using anon-directional antenna.[6] But to protect other stations on790 AM[7] from interference, it reduces power at night to 61 watts. Programming is also heard on 250-wattFM translatorK233DE at 94.5MHz.[8]
KSPD features a mix of local and national religious leaders as well as some secular talk shows. National hosts includeJim Daly,Alistair Begg,Chuck Swindoll,Joyce Meyer,Rick Warren,David Jeremiah,Greg Laurie,James Dobson,J. Vernon McGee andAdrian Rogers. The stationsigned on the air on April 27, 1961; 64 years ago (April 27, 1961).[1] It originally held thecall sign KEST.[2][9] In 1970, the station's call sign was changed to KSPD, representing the wordspud, slang forpotato, one of Idaho's major agricultural products. KSPD adopted aprogressive rock format.[2][10]
By 1975, the station had adopted anall news format, which it continued to air into the 1980s.[11][12] By 1989, the station had changed to aChristian radio format.[13] In 2017, KSPD added an FM translator at 94.5 for listeners who prefer to tune in to FM stations.
