Julianatop (Dutch pronunciation:[jyliˈjaːnaːˌtɔp]) is the highest mountain inSuriname at 1,280 metres (4,199 ft). It is located in theSipaliwini District. The mountain is named afterJuliana of the Netherlands. TheAmerindian name of the mountain isIpinumin (He who stands alone).[1]
The mountain was supposedly climbed by the AmerindianJohn Tawjoeram during the 1963 Schultz expedition, however there was no trace of John.[2] On 16 September 2006, an expedition set out to climb the mountain and planted theSurinamese flag on the top.[3]
