Finnish geodesist (1933–2022)
Juhani Antero Kakkuri[ 1] (September 12, 1933 – August 6, 2022) was a Finnishgeodesist , writer, and former director of theFinnish Geodetic Institute .
Kakkuri was born inKurikka ,Finland on September 12, 1933.[ 2] He lived his childhood there, but moved toHelsinki forupper secondary school , continuing his education at theUniversity of Helsinki , where he studiedgeophysics and physics. He received aMaster of Science degree in 1960.[ 3]
In 2021, the autobiographical memoirMuistelmia geodeettien maailmasta – Memoirs From the World of Geodesy was published bilingually in Finnish and English.[ 4] In recognition of his career, he was awarded anhonorary doctorate from theUniversity of Stuttgart .[ 5] The minor planet3597 Kakkuri is also named in his honor.[ 6]
