Juha Antero Janhunen (born 12 February 1952)[1] is a Finnish linguist whose wide interests includeUralic andMongolic languages. Since 1994, he has been Professor in East Asian studies at theUniversity of Helsinki. He has done fieldwork onSamoyedic languages and onKhamnigan Mongol.[2] More recently, he has collaborated with Chinese scholar Wu Yingzhe to produce a critical edition of two newly discoveredLiao Dynasty epitaphs written in theKhitan small script.[citation needed] Janhunen has also worked along with Ekaterina Gruzdeva on revitalizing theNivkh language.[3]
He is a critic of theAltaic hypothesis.[4]
