Juan Sabas Huertas Lorente (born 13 April 1967) is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played as aforward, currently amanager.

Playing career

After starting out with local teams,[1]Madrid-born Sabas went on to play as a senior forRayo Vallecano,Atlético Madrid (where he was used mainly as asubstitute),[2][3]Real Betis,CP Mérida,Albacete Balompié,Real Balompédica Linense,Hércules CF andCiudad de Murcia,[4] starting and finishing his 17-year career withGaláctico Pegaso and retiring at the age of 35.[1]

Sabas won twoCopa del Rey trophies with Atlético.[5] In the1991 final, he played 34 minutes of the 1–0 win againstRCD Mallorca at theSantiago Bernabéu Stadium after replacing the injuredPaulo Futre.[6]

Sabas appeared in 196La Liga matches over nine seasons, and scored 34 goals.[7] In theSegunda División, he added 82 games and 17 goals.

Coaching career

Sabas returned to Atlético in early 2009 as part of former teammateAbel Resino's coaching staff,[2] having already worked with him in that capacity atCiudad de Murcia[8] andLevante UD.[9] His first managerial experience occurred withUD San Sebastián de los Reyes during the2013–14 season,[10] and he later became adirector of football at that club.

On 29 December 2016, Sabas was appointed head coach atExtremadura UD of the third division,[11] being sacked the following 1 August.[12] He returned to theEstadio Francisco de la Hera on 1 May 2018,[13] helping to achieve afirst-ever promotion to the second tier;[14] on 10 November, however, he was again dismissed.[15]

Sabas was appointed byCórdoba CF on 10 March 2020, after the dismissal ofRaül Agné.[16] On 1 December, after only six matches, he was relieved of his duties.[17]

On 24 October 2023, after nearly three years of inactivity, Sabas was named manager ofUD Melilla in thePrimera Federación.[18] In March 2024, with his side in therelegation zone, he was fired.[19]

Sabas took over fellow third-tierZamora CF on 4 July 2024.[20][21] He missed a play-off spot in hisfirst season by six points,[22][23] but was sacked on 3 November 2025.[24]
