Juan Armet de Castellví, nicknamed "Kinké" (30 June 1895 inTerrassa[1] – 5 October 1956 in Madrid[2]) was a Spanishfootballer who played as a forward, and later a coach.
Born inTerrassa,Catalonia, Kinké began to play football in 1911 withUniversitary SC, featuring alongside the likes ofRicardo Zamora. After 5 seasons with the club, he joinedEspanyol in 1916, with whom he played for one year. At the end of the season, he was transferred toSevilla, with whom he played for the next ten seasons, retiring as a footballer in 1927 at the age of thirty-two.[3]
While aEspanyol player, he was eligible to play for theCatalonia national team, and in May 1916, he was part of the Catalan team that won the second edition of thePrince of Asturias Cup in1916, an inter-regional competition organized by theRFEF. In the decisive game against aCastile/Madrid XI, Kinké scored two goals in an 2-2 draw that was enough for the Catalans to win the cup for the first time.[4]
When he joinedSevilla, he become eligible to play for theAndalusia national team, being in the line-up of the team's first-ever international match on 19 November 1922 against aValencia XI, which was held at theCampo de Algirós as the quarter-finals of the1922-23 Prince of Asturias Cup, and they won 2-1 with Kinké being the author of the first goal in the team's history. But in the semi-finals, they were knocked out byGalicia after a 1-4 loss, with Kinké scoring the consolation goal.[4] In thefollowing campaign, Andalusia beat the Valencians in the quarter-finals again with Kinké scoring once in a 3-2 win, but then they were once again eliminated in the semi-finals, this time by the Castile/Madrid XI.[4] Kinké is theall-time top goal scorer of the prince of Asturias Cup along withJosé Luis Zabala andJuan Monjardín, who also scored 6 goals in the competition.
Armet was the manager ofReal Madrid since 1941 until September 1943. He also coachedReal Betis,[5]Real Murcia,Olímpica Jienense andCE Sabadell FC.[6]
