Ju (Chinese:;pinyin:) was aDongyistate in modernShandong province during theZhou dynasty (1046–256 BCE) of ancient China.[2] The rulers of Ju bore the surname ofJi.[3] According to theShuowen Jiezi, "Ju" meanstaro or a wooden tool.[4] It was weakened by wars with the states ofChu andQi. Eventually the state was annexed by Qi, and theCity of Ju became a major stronghold of Qi.[5][6]
