Josse Goffin (2 November 1938 – 9 July 2024) was a Belgian artist and graphic novelist.[1]

Biography

Born inBrussels on 2 November 1938,[2] Goffin readThe Adventures of Tintin,Spirou, andZig et Puce in his youth. He was an admirer ofMaurice Sendak andTomi Ungerer, theBabar the Elephant series, andSaul Steinberg.[3] He studied drawing and graphic design atLa Cambre.[4] He then worked inMaurice Rosy's office and for the publisherDupuis.[5] He then worked for several publishing houses inParis before returning to Brussels in 1962, becoming an independent comic books author.[4] He then created several book covers and magazine covers, including forSpirou.[6] He also created album covers forJulos Beaucarne[7] and television credits.[8]

In addition to his artistic career, Goffin taught at La Cambre from 1977/1979 to 2004.[9][10] He won the Grand Prize for Graphic Design at theBologna Children's Book Fair in 1992 for his bookOh !.[11] He spent most of his career working in his office inIxelles,[12] reflected in his 2010 retrospectiveJosse Goffin / Inventaire, published byÉditions Racine [fr].[13]

Goffin died in Ixelles on 9 July 2024, at the age of 85.[14]
