Joshua Hathaway (born 19 October 2003) is a Welsh professionalrugby union player who plays as awing forGloucester andWales. He can also play fly-half and full-back.[1]

Early life

Born inAberystwyth, Hathaway attendedYsgol Penglais School.[2] He later attendedHartpury College inGloucestershire.[3]

Career

Hathaway played forAberystwyth RFC and represented Ceredigion Schools at age group level.[4][5] He was a member of theScarlets Academy.[6] Hathaway signed a three-year contract withGloucester in November 2022.[7] He made his debut for Gloucester in thePremiership Rugby Cup in November 2022.[8]

In March 2024 Hathaway came off the bench as Gloucester defeatedLeicester Tigers to win the2023–24 Premiership Rugby Cup.[9] The following month saw him score a hat-trick during a league fixture againstSaracens.[10][11] At the end of that season Hathaway scored a try during the2023–24 EPCR Challenge Cup semi-final victory overBenetton and came off the bench in the final atTottenham Hotspur Stadium as Gloucester were beaten bySharks to finish runners up.[12][13]

International career

Hathaway was capped byWales U20 in March 2022.[7] Later that year, he changed his national allegiance in order to represent England qualifying through a paternal grandmother.[7][14] In February 2023 Hathaway made his first start forEngland U20 and scored a hat-trick of tries in 15 minutes on his debut againstScotland during the opening round of the2023 Six Nations Under 20s Championship.[15][16] He was identified byBBC Sport as one of the stars of the under-20 Six Nations tournament.[17]

In June 2024, Hathaway was called up to the seniorWales squad for theirtour of Australia.[18] On 6 July 2024 he made his Test debut starting againstAustralia inSydney.[19][20]
