
Joseph Earlston Thropp (October 4, 1847 – July 27, 1927) was aRepublican member of theU.S. House of Representatives fromPennsylvania.
Joseph E. Thropp was born inValley Forge, Pennsylvania. He attended the public schools andFriends Central High School inPhiladelphia, Pennsylvania. He graduated as acivil engineer from thePolytechnic College of Pennsylvania in 1868. He went to theMiddle Northwest and engaged in his profession, constructing docks atDuluth, Minnesota, andFond du Lac, Wisconsin, attaining the position of railroad division engineer. In 1870 he moved toConshohocken, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the manufacture ofpig iron. He subsequently became owner of the Earlston Furnaces inEverett, Pennsylvania, in 1888.
Thropp was elected as a Republican to theFifty-sixth. He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in1900. He retired from active business pursuits and resided inWashington, D.C., andMiami, Florida. He died while on a visit inQuebec,Canada, in 1927. Interment inWest Laurel Hill Cemetery inBala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.[1]
