Jose bar Zevida

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rabbinical eras

Jose bar Zebida (orYose b. Zevida;Hebrew:יוסי בר זבידא, read asYossi bar Zevida) was a JewishAmora sage of theLand of Israel, of the fourth generation of the Amora era. He is cited in theJerusalem Talmud and theMidrash merely asR. Jose.

He often appears in theBabylonian Talmud arguing with R' Yossi barBun.

Though he lived in the Land of Israel, he is never mentioned by name in theJerusalem Talmud. This surprising fact led to the suggestion that all places in which "R. Jose" is named in the Jerusalem Talmud are references to him.
