José Francisco "El Nene" Sanfilippo (born 4 May 1935) is a formerArgentinefootballer who played as astriker.

Club career

Sanfilippo was born inBuenos Aires. During his club career he played forSan Lorenzo,Boca Juniors andBanfield in Argentina,Nacional in Uruguay, andBangu andSC Bahia in Brazil.[1]

Sanfilippo scored his first league goal forSan Lorenzo on 21 November 1953 against Banfield, and went on to score 192 league goals for them up to 1962.[2]

In 1963, Sanfilippo moved toBoca Juniors, although in 1964 he was dismissed from the club following a disciplinary incident in a match against his former club, San Lorenzo.[3]

Sanfilippo joined Uruguayan sideNacional in 1964, after the first round of theCopa Libertadores. He scored againstColo Colo in the only Copa match he played for the club, before getting injured in a friendly match.[4]

Sanfilippo is the 5thhighest scoring player in Argentine football.[5]

International career

At international level, Sanfilippo played for theArgentina national football team in the1958 FIFA World Cup and the1962 FIFA World Cup.[6] He is the jointninth-highest goalscorer for the Argentina national football team, alongsideLeopoldo Luque, with 22 goals.[7]
