José Alberto Cabrera (born March 24, 1972) is aDominican former professionalbaseballpitcher. He played inMajor League Baseball (MLB) for theHouston Astros,Atlanta Braves, andMilwaukee Brewers. Cabrera also played for theSK Wyverns andLotte Giants of theKBO League.
Born inSantiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic's second-largest city, Cabrera entered the majors in 1997 with theHouston Astros, playing four years for them before joining theAtlanta Braves (2001) andMilwaukee Brewers (2002). His most productive season came in 2001 with the Braves, when he posted career-highs with sevenwins (7) and a 2.88ERA in 55 appearances coming out of thebullpen. Before the 2002 season, he was sent by Atlanta, along withPaul Bako, to Milwaukee in the same transaction that broughtHenry Blanco to the Braves. He went 6–10 in 50 games, including 11starts, and set career-numbers instrikeouts (61) andinnings pitched (103+1⁄3).
In 198 games, Cabrera had a 19–17 record with a 4.95 ERA, foursaves, and a 2.04strikeout-to-walk ratio (192-to-94) in 271.0 innings.
Following his major league career, Cabrera pitched for theScranton/Wilkes-Barre of theInternational League during the2003 season. In 2008, he signed with theLancaster Barnstormers of theAtlantic League of Professional Baseball.
