Jorge Eduardo Sánchez Ramos (born 10 December 1997) is a Mexican professionalfootballer who plays as aright-back forLiga MX clubCruz Azul and theMexico national team.

Club career

Santos Laguna

Born inTorreón, Sánchez began his career withSantos Laguna, joining the team's youth academy. He made hisLiga MX debut on 18 September 2016 againstPumas UNAM in a 3–1 victory, playing all 90 minutes.[3]

In June 2018, Sánchez joinedClub América.[4]

Ajax

On 10 August 2022, Sánchez joined Dutch clubAFC Ajax on a four-year contract, joining up with international teammateEdson Álvarez.[5] He was handed jersey number 19.[6] On 28 August 2022, he made hisEredivisie debut for Ajax in a 2–0 victory againstFC Utrecht.[7] On 7 September 2022, Sánchez made hisUEFA Champions League debut in a 4–0 home victory against Scottish clubRangers.[8]

Loan to Porto

On 29 August 2023,Primeira Liga sidePorto announced the signing of Sánchez on a season-long loan from Ajax.[9] The deal reportedly includes a €4 million option-to-buy, which becomes mandatory if the right-back plays at least 45 minutes in 20 matches.[10]

Sánchez made his debut for theDragons on 19 September, coming off the bench to replaceJoão Mário in the 72nd minute of a 3–1 away victory over Shakhtar Donetsk, in theUEFA Champions League group stage.[11] He made his Primeira Liga debut on 8 October, coming on as a substitute forNico González for the five final minutes of a 1–0 victory overPortimonense at theEstádio do Dragão.[12] On 29 October, Sánchez made his first start for Porto, playing the full 90 minutes in a 2–0 league victory away atVizela.[13]

On 4 July 2024,Cruz Azul reached an agreement withAFC Ajax on the transfer of Sánchez.[14]

International career

Sánchez was included in the final roster that participated at the2018 Toulon Tournament.[15] He appeared in four matches and was included in the Best XI of the tournament as Mexico finished runner-up.[16] That year, Sánchez also played in theCentral American and Caribbean Games,[17] appearing in two group stage matches. Mexico finished last in their group with one point.

Sánchez was in the preliminary roster for the2020 CONCACAF Men's Olympic Qualifying Championship but did not make the final squad.[18]

In 2021, Sánchez was included in theunder-23 squad forSummer Olympics in Japan. He won the bronze medal with the Olympic team.[19]

Senior

Sánchez made hissenior national team debut on 26 March 2019 in a friendly againstParaguay, as a starter.[20][21] In May, he was included inGerardo Martino's preliminary list for theCONCACAF Gold Cup.[22] On 9 June, during a friendly match againstEcuador, he picked up an injury on his right leg causing him to miss the Gold Cup.[23]

In October 2022, Sánchez was named in Mexico's preliminary 31-mansquad for the2022 FIFA World Cup, and in November, he was ultimately included in the final 26-man roster.[24]
