John Pascarella (born July 20, 1966) is an Americansoccer coach who is currently on the staff ofForward Madison FC inUSL League One.
Raised inVineland, New Jersey, Pascarella played prep soccer atVineland High School together withGlenn Carbonara, with both graduating in 1984.[1]
Pascarella played four years ofcollege soccer atPennsylvania State University between 1984 and 1987, before playing professional soccer. He had stints withWashington Stars[2] and abroad in Peru with bothSport Boys[3] andAlianza Atlético, before returning to the United States. In the US, Pascarella played in the A-League andUSISL Premier League withRichmond Kickers andStandard Falcons, before joiningMLS sideLos Angeles Galaxy in 1996.[4]
Pascarella's coaching career began at theUniversity of Maryland in 1998. He later was head coach atHerndon High School, the U.S. Olympic Development Program in Virginia and withUSL PDL sideNorthern Virginia Royals. He joinedPeter Vermes atKansas City Wizards in MLS as goalkeeping coach in 2009, before becoming an assistant coach.[4]
In 2017, he was named head coach at PDL sideDes Moines Menace,[5][6] getting the team to the Conference Finals.
On December 21, 2017, Pascarella was appointed goalkeeping coach withMinnesota United ahead of their inaugural season in MLS.[7]
On November 22, 2019, Pascarella was named head coach ofUSL Championship sideOKC Energy, his first fully professional head coaching position.[8]
On June 4, 2021, following a winless start to the2021 USL Championship season, Pascarella and the OKC Energy mutually agreed to part ways.[9]
Pascarella joinedForward Madison FC's staff on January 7, 2022.[10]
I've never played for a team called the Russian Stars. I don't even know where it comes from. The only thing I can think of is that somewhere along the way someone was interviewing me over the phone and I said 'Washington Stars' and it sounded like 'Russian Stars'.
