John Harrison Nichols (born February 3, 1959) is aliberal andprogressive Americanjournalist and author. He is the Executive Editor ofThe Nation Magazine and Associate Editor ofThe Capital Times. Nichols co-authored "It's OK to Be Angry About Capitalism" with Senator Bernie Sanders, which became a New York Times Best Seller. Other books authored or co-authored by Nichols includeThe Genius of Impeachment andThe Death and Life of American Journalism.[2][3]

Personal life

Nichols grew up inUnion Grove, Wisconsin.[4] He lives inMadison, Wisconsin with his wife Mary Bottari, who is the chief of staff for the city of Madison.[5]

Journalism

Nichols holds a master's degree fromColumbia University Graduate School of Journalism and bachelor's degree from theUniversity of Wisconsin–Parkside.[3] He used to be the national correspondent for newspapers inToledo andPittsburgh. He lives inMadison and works as an editor forThe Capital Times.[6] Nichols is Washington correspondent forThe Nation and writes "The Beat" blog for the magazine.[7] He is a regular contributor toIn These Times andThe Progressive. He appears in the documentary filmsOutfoxed,Unprecedented: The 2000 Presidential Election,Orwell Rolls in His Grave, andCall It Democracy. Nichols is co-founder, withRobert McChesney andJosh Silver, ofFree Press.[2]

Nichols is a regular radio and TV guest of many liberal and progressive talk shows, includingThe Ed Show with Ed Schultz on MSNBC,Up with Chris Hayes on MSNBC,The Drive Home with Sly on The Big Oldies WEKZ 93.7 (Monroe, WI),Thom Hartmann, andJon Wiener on KPFK in Los Angeles.
