John Milhiser (born November 29, 1981)[1] is an American actor and comedian. He first garnered attention for his work as a member of theUpright Citizens Brigade sketch group Serious Lunch, before achieving further notice for his brief stint as a cast member on theNBCsketch comedy seriesSaturday Night Live for the2013–2014 season.[2]
He has been a regular performer at theUpright Citizens Brigade Theater since 2005, where he was a member of the sketch comedy group Serious Lunch, who have been featured onLate Night with Jimmy Fallon andAttack of the Show. Milhiser is a native ofBelle Mead, New Jersey and he graduated in 2000 fromMontgomery High School inSkillman, New Jersey.[3] He later attendedHofstra University, where he graduated in 2004 as a Film Studies and Production major[4] and was a member ofSigma Pi fraternity.[5]
Milhiser made his debut onSaturday Night Live on the September 28, 2013, season premiere hosted byTina Fey with musical guestArcade Fire.[6] His celebrity impressions includedJon Cryer,Matthew McConaughey,Verne Troyer (as Mini-Me from theAustin Powers movies), andBillie Joe Armstrong. On July 15, 2014, it was announced that Milhiser's contract withSNL was not renewed and he would not be returning as a cast member.[7] When asked about getting fired fromSNL, Milhiser reflected 2014 was the year he felt "the least funny."[8]
In 2014, Milhiser appeared in a supporting role in the indie filmCamp Takota starring comediansGrace Helbig,Hannah Hart andMamrie Hart. He has also made guest appearances on television programs such asAdam Ruins Everything,2 Broke Girls,Netflix Original SeriesLove, andOther Space.
Milhiser wasSaturday Night Live's secondopenly gay male cast member (afterTerry Sweeney),[9] as well as one of the fewLGBTQ cast members overall.[10]
