John Mathew Nickolaus Jr. (May 18, 1913 – February 10, 1985) was an Americancinematographer.
Born inBayonne, New Jersey.[1] Nickolaus began his career as a camera operator forMGM in the late 1940s. By the 1950s, he was working as a director of photography in both film and television. Nickolaus then worked on such popular television series as thelegal drama television seriesPerry Mason, thewestern television seriesRawhide, andGunsmoke, which starredJames Arness. Together withConrad Hall, he had helped establish the visual style of the originalThe Outer Limits (1963–65).
Nickolaus continued to work in television until shortly before his death inMalibu, California in 1985. He died ofcancer.[1]
