John Hammink (born May 1, 1970) is anAmericanengineer,musician,artist andlinguist.
Hammink was born inCleveland,Ohio, and graduated fromEastern Michigan University in 1993 with aB.A. inLinguistics. He emigrated toFinland in 1996 to lecture atJyväskylä andKajaani Polytechnics,[1] and toEstonia in 2003. As of 2007, he has taught topics related to Product Realization and testing for software and consumer electronics atUniversidad Técnica Federico Santa María inValparaiso,Chile;Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral inGuayaquil,Ecuador and has advised startup companies worldwide.[2] As of 2011, he worked atMozilla, where he led earlyQuality Assurance efforts onFirefox OS.[3][4][5]
In 2008, after a long campaign, he found a company willing to support his work on a managed care system for diabetic patients.[6]
Hammink established a certification program forVoice over IP providerSkype, which aims to measure the quality of the user experience for all facets of hardware and software products that integrate with Skype's openAPI.[7][8] The Skype Certification program merges practical application of theMetaphysics of Quality as proposed byRobert M. Pirsig and principles ofSoftware inspection as proposed byTom Gilb.
He has also toured and recorded extensively as asoloacoustic guitarist,bassist andvocalist with Russian record producer Peter Coon.[9] During 2008 and 2009 John recorded extensively in the now defunct studio called "Studio Höör" with record producer and sound technician Daniel Westin (now founder and owner of Studio Zero Latency Records). In November 2010, he performed withVepsian language lineup Jousnen Jarved atLiet minority-language music festival inLorient,France.[10]
