John F. Smith is an Americansoap opera writer and producer. Smith, formerly a member ofWriters Guild of America West, left and maintainedfinancial core status during the2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike.[1][2]
Smith is best known for his stints as head writer ofThe Bold and the Beautiful andThe Young and the Restless. Prior to Smith's tenure onY&R, there was a period of widespread audience erosion. When John Smith was producer, ratings decreased substantially by over 2 million viewers. Most of the decrease occurred in 2004 when Smith co-wrote the show with longtimeY&Rscribe,Kay Alden.
Smith has been nominated for and won numerousDaytime Emmy,Writers Guild of America, andProducers Guild of America Awards.
