John Frederick Benton (July 15, 1931[1]Philadelphia – February 25, 1988Pasadena) was an American medieval historian, the Doris and Henry Dreyfuss Professor of History at theCalifornia Institute of Technology.[2]

Education

He graduated fromHaverford College, with a BA in 1953, fromPrinceton University with an MA in 1955, and PhD in 1959. He taught atReed College and theUniversity of Pennsylvania before joining the Caltech faculty in 1965.[3]
