John DeLuca is an American actor and singer who is known for his role as Butchy in theDisney Channel Original Movie,Teen Beach Movie, as well as its sequelTeen Beach 2, and as Anthony in coming-of-age comedyStaten Island Summer.[1] He also guest starred withMaia Mitchell on an episode of Disney Channel's show,Jessie, along with a guest appearance onWizards of Waverly Place.
DeLuca was born inLongmeadow, Massachusetts, the eldest of 3 boys. He is of Italian, Spanish and Irish origin. Growing up, DeLuca was an athlete.[1] In his senior year of high school, DeLuca decided to try out for high school production ofThe Wizard of Oz, where he auditioned for the role of Scarecrow. After he got the part, he decided to pursue acting.[2] He graduated from Longmeadow High School.[1] DeLuca is a graduate ofFordham University in New York where he was a Theatre major.[3]
In 2009, DeLuca had his acting and TV debut, when he guest starred in showsUgly Betty and30 Rock.[4] In 2011, he guest starred in TV showsLights Out andWizards of Waverly Place.[5] That same year he also starred as Bucky Buchanan inDisney Channel unsold pilotZombies and Cheerleaders.[6] In early 2012, DeLuca guest starred in an episode ofThe Secret Life of the American Teenager.[7]
In 2012, DeLuca had a film debut inWe Made This Movie, where he played the role of Jeff.[8] Later, he guest-starred in an episode ofSketchy. In December 2012, he had a role as Colin Hemingway in the indie drama movieHemingway.[9] In early 2013, DeLuca guest starred withMaia Mitchell on Disney showJessie.[10] In 2013, he landed the role of Butchy in a hitDisney Channel Original Movie,Teen Beach Movie.[1] The movie was directed byJeffrey Hornaday and earned 13.5 million total viewers onDisney Channel.[11] He played the role of Butchy, the leader of the biker gang in the movie within the movie. Also in 2013, DeLuca had a recurring role in the TV seriesTwisted, as Cole Farell.[12] He had a role in short filmIt Remains.[13]
In 2014, he guest starred on an episode ofInstant Mom. In 2015, DeLuca reprised his role as Butchy, leader of the biker gang, in theDisney Channel Original Movie,Teen Beach 2 sequel to the hit movieTeen Beach Movie.[14] The film was directed byJeffrey Hornaday and premiered to 7.5 million total viewers on Disney Channel.[15] He had a main role in coming-of-age comedyStaten Island Summer as Anthony DiBuono, Italian lifeguard who dreams of joining the Navy.[16] The film was directed by Rhys Thomas and written byColin Jost and had a limited release in theater before premiering worldwide onNetflix on July 30, 2015.[17]
On April 4, 2016, it was announced that DeLuca had joined the cast ofABC'ssoap opera,General Hospital.[18] His character,Aaron Roland, started recurring on April 27, 2016.[19] DeLuca guest starred in multiple season 4 episodes as Jeremy inHulu's dramaEast Los High.[20] He played the role of Brett in web released short filmsFree Period.[21] The short films were released onDisney Channel'sYouTube page.[22]
He starred as Chet in the family friendly gymnastic movieChalk It Up alongsideMaddy Curley andNikki SooHoo.[23] The movie was released on September 13, 2016 on iTunes, Amazon and Google Play.[24] He also starred as Wade in the family friendly movieAll Halloes' Eve co-starringLexi Giovagnoli andAshley Argota.[25] The movie was released on digital hd on September 27, 2016.[26] On October 6, 2016 DeLuca guest starred in an episode ofHow to Get Away with Murder.[27] He also guest starred in an episode ofComrade Detective, where he voiced the character Young Nikita.
In 2017, he starred as Maverick in the short filmLara Croft Is My Girlfriend alongside his then girlfriend Lidia Rivera.[28] Later that year, he also appeared as Bobby in theGo90's romantic comedy seriesRelationship Status.[29] DeLuca guest starred as Billy in the horror web seriesWelcome To Daisyland.[30] He also guest starred as Rod in an episode ofFX'sAmerican Horror Story: 1984.[31] DeLuca had a supporting role as Davey Wallace inHallmark Channel Original MovieA Merry Christmas Match oppositeLindsey Gort.[32] He guest starred as Vinny Linguini (voice) in Disney'sMuppet Babies.[33]
In 2020, DeLuca played the supporting role of Mario in the independent thrillerSpree, which had its world premiere on January 24, 2020 atSundance Film Festival.[34] He starred as Josh Grant in theLifetime original movieKiller Dream Home alongsideMaiara Walsh.[35] In 2021, he played the role of Bobby in the comedy filmDonny's Bar Mitzvah.[36] In 2022, he played the role of Christian in the short filmThe Bacheliar.
In 2023, DeLuca starred as Anthony in the horror short filmLOAB alongside Siri Miller. Later that year, he played the role of AJ in the comedy short film'ZA. In 2025, DeLuca played the role of A.J. Berg in the horror filmSkillhouse.[37]
