Johann Hornung (c. 1660Tallinn – 1715) was aBaltic-GermanLutheran clergyman and language enthusiast.[1]
He worked as a sacristan in several Estonian churches, includingPõltsamaa (1692–1698) andKarula (1698–1715).[1]
WithAdrian Virginius, he translatedNew Testament intoNorth Estonian. 1694 he published the religious bookÖnsa Luterusse Laste Öppetuse ..., and he was a coauthor of the religious bookMa Kele Koddo ning Kirgo Ramatu.[1]
His most important work was the Latin-languageGrammatica Esthonica ..., which provided an overview of the grammar of North Estonian.[1]
