Johan Kappelhof (born 5 August 1990) is a Dutch professionalfootballer who plays as adefender forLebanese Premier League clubSafa.
Kappelhof was born inAmsterdam, Netherlands. Whilst being inAjax's youth academy for 13 years he moved from being a rightwinger to adefender.[2]
AtGroningen he made his debut in 2011, before helping them win theKNVB Cup in 2014–15 against defending championsPEC Zwolle. It was their first major trophy and they qualified for theUEFA Europa League.[3][4] He played in all six of Groningen's Europe league group games.[citation needed]

On 2 February 2016, Kappelhof joined AmericanMajor League Soccer clubChicago Fire.[5] Following the2017 season, he was voted the club's defender of the year after earning 4 assists in 33 matches.[6]
Kappelhof's contract with Chicago expired after the2021 season, and he became afree agent.[7]
On 18 February 2022, Kappelhof signed as a free agent withReal Salt Lake.[8] Following the2022 season, his contract option was declined by Salt Lake.[9]
On 2 July 2023, Kappelhof signed forSafa in theLebanese Premier League, ahead of the2023–24 season.[10]
Kappelhof has a Ghanaian mother and a Dutch father.[11]
